Hello,
If I’ve not met you before, I’m Milo. I am a sociable young man who has been lucky enough to be active and enjoy it for most of my life.
Despite my parents playing basketball for Scotland, I quickly became obsessed with football, I captained my local team and joined the SFA performance school, dedicating my life to becoming a footballer. At 17 I realised that I probably wasn’t good enough to make it professionally, but anyway, fate decided for me and I tore my ACL and meniscus, a knee injury that put me out of action for over a year. It wasn’t easy giving up what I loved, but I managed to find some refuge in getting more involved in the gym whereby I learned alternative ways to keep active and progressed through my long journey of rehabilitation.
My passion for Sport and Exercise combined with my interest in science brought me to study Physiology and Sports Science at the University of Glasgow. I wasn’t someone who expected to go to Uni and therefore I was surprised when I realised it was ranked the number 1 Uni in the UK for studying Sports Science. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, but I managed to get on top of things and rediscover the passion I had for learning about how the body works. I used this to help with my own training and explored any method I could find to get active. Then one day while doing some mobility training, I twist, and my knee goes again, back on the year-long waiting list for surgery. At this time, I decided to dedicate myself to learning as much as possible from my degree, from topics of exercise physiology and the physiological determinants to performance to public health and nutrition.
I underwent the long process of rehabilitation again and in 2020 managed to graduate with a First-Class Honours during the heart of the pandemic. During my time at Uni, I realised I was much more interested in helping people connect with the benefits of getting active rather than making marginal gains for athletes and so decided to go down a public health route. I have been working within the social sector working with adults with disabilities and disadvantaged young people, while helping them get active, amongst other things. Simultaneously I completed my Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Training qualifications with the hope to combine my academic understanding of physiology and sports science with the practical application of being a PT to help people get the same benefits that I’ve had from activity.
I hope to use Choose to Change to help people with any changes from being able to play with your kids and not being out of breath, to getting fit enough to return to your favourite childhood sport or just feel more confident in yourself, I hope to use all I’ve learned to help people work towards where they want to be. Life is a journey, and sometimes we need a little guidance to enjoy the process and get us to where we want to be.
Why not try getting help with the changes that you want to make? Why not try Choose to Change?
